About Me
My name is Ida Brekke, and I was born in Arendal, Norway.
Photography has been a red thread throughout my life, even though the path to it hasn’t always been straightforward.
In 1986, I spent half a year studying photography at Fortman Studios in Florence, Italy. There, I learned the fundamentals of analog photography. My enthusiasm at the time led to an offer to assist the renowned Italian photographer Stefano Biliotti – but being young and uncertain, I turned it down. Back in Norway, life took another direction, yet my passion for photography never disappeared.
Twenty years later, I picked up the thread again and completed my education at the Bilder Nordic School of Photography in Oslo (2006–2008). At last, I had found my flow – telling stories through images.
I work across several styles and am fascinated by the immediacy of photography – capturing moments as they are: raw, fleeting, and unfiltered. I aim to reveal subjects in a new light, to shift the perspective and invite the viewer to see differently. What unites all my work is passion – the desire to communicate, to awaken the senses, to surprise, and to attract.
At Gullsnitt 2009, the annual Norwegian advertising photography awards, I won Best Photography in the Food & Beverage category (Nespresso) and was named Newcomer of the Year for my series Living Sculpture. The following year, in 2010, I received a Silver Award in the Personal Work category for the series Trees.
Today, I combine photography with a new passion – travel.
I have founded the travel agency Vietnam Together.
